This Is Not A Drill — The ‘Dislike’ Button Is Finally Coming To Facebook

At long last, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday (Sept. 15) that the social media site will soon employ the “dislike” button. Zuckerberg spoke about the newest addition during a Q&A at Facebook’s headquarters, explaining, “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”

Zuckerberg was originally against the idea because he didn’t want his company to turn into another version of Reddit, according to Business Insider. Thankfully, he realized the dislike button wouldn’t only be used in a negative manner (even though you know you’re going to have that ONE friend who dislikes your “I got engaged!” status). There are plenty of reasons to dislike something, such as death in the family, illness or other misfortunes life may throw at a person.

What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” continued Zuckerberg. For years, people have been “liking” a status or photo, only to then “unlike” it. This doesn’t always signify someone is being mean, but rather “expressing empathy” like Zuckerberg said.

No word on when it’ll launch, but hopefully soon. Business Insider reported, “Facebook has been working on it for awhile.” Before you know it, we’re all going to be like King Bob. Yep finally
